The City of Kawartha Lakes is located on the northeast border of the Greater Toronto Area. The land area is 3,059 square kilometers (755,895 acres) composed of a mix of urban and rural areas with over 60 'named' lakes (there are actually over 250 lakes). The major urban areas in order of population count are Lindsay (20,050), Bobcaygeon (3,150) and Fenelon Falls (2,800). The Trent-Severn Waterway traverses through the center of the City via a network of navigable rivers and locks linking the Pigeon, Sturgeon, Cameron, Balsam, Mitchell, Scugog and Canal lakes.
